Rejected :(

Last night I couldn't sleep (which I haven't been able to do anyways the last couple of weeks because I was too excited to hear back from Iceland) and I found out that I was rejected from AFS-Iceland. At first I was in shock and I started to cry and I just kept thinking, "no, no, no they wouldn't do that to me. They aren't that cruel, no." And I cried for a good hour and a half until it finally sunk in...my dream wasn't going to happen this year. So, finally I woke up my parents (at like 5:30 AM) and I was crying and my mom asked, "What's wrong?" and then it must of hit her I don't know how maybe she just has like mother senses but she asked, "Is it Iceland?" And I nodded. She woke up my father and we ended up just drinking tea together and talking until like 6:30 AM when I decided to go to bed and I slept until like two in the afternoon.  The good thing that came out of this though was that I ate my feelings out and though I am going to gain like ten pounds because of it, it made me feel a little better. We talked to my AFS contact and she confirmed it: I am not going to Iceland this year. And because Iceland took SO long to give me an answer it made it impossible for me to try and send my application anywhere else for this year. I am going to apply again next year but, I am not sure if I'll send my application back to Iceland. It's been my obsession for YEARS now but after what happend I don't know if I want to go there with AFS.

I remeber two years ago thinking, "Wow, this time next year I'll be applying to go to Iceland!" and it was stuff like that that helped me sleep at night.

One year ago I was thinking, "Wow, I could be in Iceland soon this time next year!"

In the last couple of months, "Wow, I am going to be in Iceland in a few months!" I would imagine how amazing it would feel to hear the words, "Bryana, you're going to Iceland."

Well, now I have a LOT more summer work to do but the good news is I'll get to meet the girl from Norway our family is hosting. I really still can't wrap my brain around what's happened. Everyone was SO sure I was going to get accepted, I was applying for a visa and everything was all lined up.

My father and I volunteered like a week ago to help some Columbian exchange students get to their conecting flights. And that is my favorite thing to do volunteer wise and now I don't know if we are going to to go because I don't know if I'll be able to controll my emotions around all of these exchange students telling me how amazing their experience was.

Well, good luck to all of you going abroad this year.
